Hi John & Roy,

Thanks for the message.

Roy, can you give me a UPS or GHL number too so I can pass it on to Stanwell and get the goods shipped directly back to FHR tomorrow please. This will save time.

Cheers for now,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I do not have any unit to do trouble shooting up to now.  Can you send me the failed unit to me as soon as possible?

Roy,

Can you give Steve an RMA number?  Or anything he needs to send the units back to us.

Regards,

John Fong

Hi John,

Have we made any progress on this? Stanwell are pushing for some action. They have quarantined the units they have in stock but need to know our confirmation of what the problem actually is and what the corrective action is.

They are due to meet Constellation (their customer for these) tomorrow (Wednesday 8th) and are concerned that, without anything to offer, the customer will pull his business.

I need an update from you over-night tonight if possible, so I can go back to Stanwell first thing tomorrrow morning UK time before they have their meeting. Initially I was informed that the meeting was to have been next week, but was advised a few minutes ago that they are having the meeting tomorrow instaed - hence the reason why they are pushing for a response from us.

Please get back to me with any update you have.

Thanks in advance and apologies for pushing so hard on this, but I'm getting pushed from the other end. You know how it is!

Cheers for now,

Steve

Hi John,

Attached is a sheet showing the timer markings on the products at Stanwell. They are all marked 14060B which tells me they are NOT the SGS Thomson timers.

We need Providence to test the timers they are using somehow. We are under presure to find a solution. Any ideas? If you need the faulty units back from Stanwell please let me know. If you let me have the FHR DHL or UPS number I'll get them sent back direct for your attention. An RMA number would also be useful, just in case they get put into the system and don't land on your desk!

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Attached is the timer identification reply from Providence.  They have remove SGS timer completed as of Jan of 2005.

If the failed timer is not the SGS timer, we need to evaluate this again.

John Fong

Hi John,

We stopped purchasing the SGS thomas IC when heard of the failed products news on January, 2005. and at present our stock have no SGS IC.

Enclosed herewith the IC pictures we are now using .

The present IC has a marking shown “14060B  PKK524”,while the old one has no this Marking. So, we can identify them per this difference.

Dear Darwin,

Please review the following email on the filed timer problem.  We want to make sure that the SGS timer has been removed from production. Let us know how to identify the timer.

Hi John,

No, the three received at Stanwell had the date code 0521 3685 (3 off)

Stanwell also tested two units from stock with date code 0520 3309 and these failed also.

These are all FSP0001A's. As far as I know they have not tested any of the FSP0005A's which has the 24 volt pump inside.

Are we certain that the SGS Thomson timer was removed from production after the matter was raised last year? Is there any way to tell the two timers apart? Are the manufacturers names on them somewhere or not? If they are marked then we can take some units and investigate here also.

Rob Shettle is the R & D guy from Stanwell. He will no doubt raise the issue with Providence tomorrow, but it would be nice to have something to tell them before he raises the questions!

Please keep us updated on where we are on this. We need to be aware of possible claims from other users out in the field.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Kind regards,

Steve

Hi All,

I knew I had this somewhere in my files! Please see the correspondence below regarding what came to light back at the end of 2004.

In brief, we had two suppliers for the timer units used on the FSP range. The SGS Thomson Timer was a problem with 15% failure on the line and should have been discontinued (and the stock of parts returned to the supplier for scrapping) We should be using the Motorola IC unit only as far as I know.

Is there any way we can identify which part we are using. It might also be worth checking what the BOM says. John Fong can confirm what part we are supposed to be using now, just in case any ECN's have gone through on this over the past 12 months.

Hope this helps clarify my email of earlier.

Cheers for now,

Steve

Dear Andy,

I need the information as to what products the SGS Thomson timers have been used in that have been shipped to Flojet UK. I guess John Fong and maybe NY Cheng will require similar details if they have had goods shipped to their regions which have this timer built in.

We need to be able to anticipate the problems we will have out in the field.

On your tests, what sort of percentage of the timers were faulty? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Steve

Dear Andy and Steve,

I agree with Steve that SGS Thompson IC needs to be returned to vendor for credit.  Unless Flojet has ECN to change to this vendor specifically.

Dear Andy & John,

Thanks for the prompt response on the timer issue in the FSP0001 and FSP0002 electric Wine Pump.

The fact that we have issues with the reliablity of the SGS Thomson IC is a real problem. I assume that, as we have 2,500 + pieces in stock, this is the one we have been building into most of the FSP units we have made over the past months.

Can you confirm this? We need to know what units this timer was built into and which batches are potentially affected. Can you let us know which units were shipped to Flojet Europe?

As far as the scrapping of the Thomson units is concerned, this is a decision for John Fong. My personal opinion is that, if there is a potential quality issue, then we should scrap them off or pehaps return them to the manufacturer for credit, but it is an engineering decision, not a sales one. (John Fong: Please advise Andy what to do with the current stock of SGS Thomson IC units)

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Steve

Dear Steve,

Please be informed that our Reliability Test results reflect the SGS Thomson IC (Part No. HCF 4060BM) causing the timer malfunction. We have further confirmed with other Timers using Motorola IC (Part No. MC 14060BD) which are functioning well.

We have received the defective Timer yesterday and completed the troubleshooting. Again it is the IC problem.

Our Corrective Action is to stop using the SGS Thomson IC (stock qty = 2,585 pcs).

Please advice us whether we shall scrap the stock. Thank you.

Subject: Attn; Ray Lee - FSP0002A - Timer Problem

Dear Ray,

We have been supplying the FSP0002A to a company in Germany who is making dispense machines for hot wine, which are sold to the UK.

In the past couple of weeks we have had contact direct with their customer, who have been telling us that they have had a few problems with the units. A week or so ago we got two of the machines here that had been showing problems in trade but we could not replicate the problems they have been having.

Today I picked up another unit that had stopped working and brought it back to our factory for testing.

The pump was not working. It would run for a second and then stop.

In order to identify the problem, we removed the pump from the FSP0002A and tested it on its own. It ran without any problems.

We then reassembled it into the FSP and it would not run.

On testing the  components, we discovered that no power was getting through the timer unit. Replacing the timer unit resolved the problem and the FSP ran okay.

I am returning the timer  unit we took out of the machine to you so you can look at it. I would be grateful if you could examine the part (or have the manufacturer examine the part if you cannot do it) and tell us what the problem is.

I look forward to hearing your results in due course. In the meantime, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Steve
